Ventspils Mērnieks

About us

We are a certified surveying and geodesy company based in Ventspils. We have been working since 2012, and in that time we have delivered work across Latvia — from restoring the boundaries of a single plot to surveying industrial sites.

Company history

From one surveyor to a full-service office

SIA "Ventspils mērnieks" began work in Ventspils in 2012, at a point when construction in the city and the port was growing quickly and local clients needed a surveyor who understood both the technical side and what the municipality would ask for.

The early years were mostly topographic surveying for construction projects in and around Ventspils. As demand grew for cadastral surveying and land management projects, the company widened its range so a client would not have to line up several contractors for one project.

Today we work across Latvia, though the base and most of the sites are still in Kurzeme. Years of working with municipalities, the State Land Service and the owners of engineering utility networks mean we can anticipate the approval path while the quote is still being written.

Values and mission

Why we work the way we do

Our mission is straightforward: make surveying a understandable, predictable step in a client project rather than a bureaucratic obstacle.

Accuracy before speed

A survey that has to be redone is not fast. We work with certified equipment and check the data before submission, so approval succeeds the first time.

Straight answers

We say what we can realistically do and when. If a deadline depends on an institution we say so up front, not after the schedule has already slipped.

We own the paperwork

We handle approval with the municipality, the State Land Service and the owners of engineering utility networks. The client does not have to chase bureaucratic processes - that is our job.

Built for the long term

Most of our work comes from repeat clients and referrals. That is only possible if every project finishes the way it was promised.

How we have grown

How our technology has changed

The principles of surveying do not change, but the instruments do. Each step here changed how fast and over how large an area we can work.

  1. 1998

    First steps in surveying

Work began compiling the cadastre map at the Ventspils branch of the State Land Service, alongside classical instrument surveying - an optical total station and an optical level.

  2. 1999

The start of GPS survey technology

We acquired one of the first TRIMBLE GPS receivers in Latvia, with a centimetre-accuracy option using a post-processing workflow - used mainly for cadastral surveying in forest and rural areas.

  3. 2008

    Switch to GNSS RTK

We began surveying with the new GNSS RTK method, which cut field work from days to hours and made it possible to take on much larger properties.

  4. 2019

    Drone photogrammetry technology

Drone survey made it possible to cover tens of hectares in a single visit, calculate quarry volumes and produce orthophotos and 3D models.

  5. Today

    Full-cycle surveying

Topography, cadastral surveying, land management and geodetic work in construction all under one roof - every job handled from signing the contract to approved, registered results.
